A new concise insight into how we can improve our collective action through new forms of collaboration, governance, ownership, and value distribution. While decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) can be part of this, we adopt a broader perspective on collective action with this initiative.

Counterweight to autocracy

In autocratic societies, the balance of power has shifted heavily toward the government. In such societies, the needs and interests of citizens are often neglected. A phone call to those in power changes nothing (though paying bribes can sometimes help). But how do you resist a powerful state apparatus and ensure that your needs are met and your interests protected?

A solution lies at the community level or with people who share a common interest or goal. By organizing, people gain power and influence from the bottom up. The civil rights movement, the fight for women's suffrage (women's rights), and Occupy Wall Street are examples of such grassroots movements.

But collective action is a notorious problem. How do you coordinate activities? How do you come to agreements when interests collide within your group? How do you make sure that participants have skin in the game and act in good faith? How do you guarantee that, when implementing a representation mechanism, representatives represent you and not just themselves?
