A new concise insight into how we can improve our collective action through new forms of collaboration, governance, ownership, and value distribution. While decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) can be part of this, we adopt a broader perspective on collective action with this initiative.

Results when public and private don't deliver

Whether it concerns services or products, private companies do not deliver in situations they deem unprofitable or they under-deliver when there is a lack of competition.

‘Government failure’ (when government agencies fail to provide services or infrastructure that meet citizens' needs) can stem from various causes. These include incompetence, a lack of funding (tax revenue/priorities), or an absence of accountability when agreed-upon service levels or quality standards are not met.

In cases of market or government failure, we see people stepping in collectively. This occurs particularly when basic needs—such as housing, utilities, food, or healthcare—are not being met. Cooperatives, associations, and foundations are on the rise. These are typically non-profit organizations where people collaborate to meet a shared need or even realize a common dream. Examples include energy cooperatives, homeowners' associations, and foundations supporting regenerative agriculture.

But how do you, starting often as moostly laymen, organize yourself in a professional way? How do you keep track of finances? How do you implement shared decision making and fair value distribution?
